Who is Hilltop?

MEET MARY-MARTIN

Being a woman business owner runs deep in Mary-Martin France’s roots. Both of Mary-Martin’s grandmothers and her great-grandmother were all business owners. Yet, this LSU Tiger’s adoration for retail did not begin until after she resigned from a corporate job.

“I started at Emma’s Shoes and Accessories in Mandeville and quickly fell in love with the retail world and all that it entails,” she says. From there, Mary-Martin and a friend opened Hilltop Shoppe on Magazine Street in September 2017. The name nodding to their time at Camp Waldemar in Texas, where last-year campers are called “hilltoppers”.

Two and half years later, Mary-Martin now loves visiting with all of her clients new and old, plus the many tourists that stop in to see what Hilltop has to offer. “My favorite part of day-to-day is interacting with my clients. We strive to provide the best customer service and want every single person who walks in the door to leave happy with their Hilltop happies,” Mary-Martin smiles. She also loves hearing feedback about the many goods Hilltop carries. From baptismal gifts and jewelry to stationery and wedding registry options, there’s a little something for everyone. Mary-Martin enjoys merchandising the store to present the many brands available including Vietri, Moser Glass, LSA International, Uashmama, and more.   As a woman in business she adds: “I take my role as a female business owner seriously. I believe that as women, especially right now, we have a responsibility to pave the way for future generations. It’s cliché but you can truly accomplish anything through hard work, consistency, and perseverance. I was always encouraged and supported by both of my parents and my sister to chase after what I want in life—and I hope to do that in the future for young girls.”

The New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau put it best when they said: "Hilltop Shoppe is the kind of gift shop you can pop into in a hurry and emerge with the perfect “happy” or present. Hilltop carries everything from high-end bath necessities, pajamas, table top items, bar accessories, linens, pillows, books, art, and jewelry. It also provides a wedding and baby registry. We don’t think it gets much better than opening your home, gathering your friends and family around your table and serving delicious cocktails and bites. The passion for hospitality is the heart of what you’ll find at Hilltop Shoppe. "

We don't think they could have described it any better.
